The Group quilt category is one of my favorites and this year there were many outstanding examples.
The method to do this is easy but the effect is quite interesting. First you take a photo and cut it into pieces. Each member gets one piece and then quilts it to represent their portion. All the finished pieces are then put together, or finished separately and hung side by side to recreate the original photo.
It’s all explained in detail in my book, Quilting Party!:Group Quilting for Celebration, Commemoration & Charity sold on my website. It’s on SALE too!
Comment below to win a copy. Have you done a group quilt? Would you like to? What do you think?
I loved these quilts at the NQA show. I have your book but had actually forgotten this technique was in it. Thanks for the reminder. I have done a "group quilt" but not with this technique. Maybe CMQG would condiser it...I'm a fairly new member Kathy Gordon

ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea. I can't wait to share this with my quilting group. I love the way paintings like these pictures look on the wall. I think the quilts look even better.
ReplyDeleteOh, how gorgeous! I love Oregon and have seen Mt. Shasta from the air, when traveling to Oregon.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any quilting friends, or a proper quilting machine, so a group effort is not possible for me. I think it is a wonderful idea, though.
Such incredible quilting!
