Homage to Klee by Leonie Castelino

I received an email and photo from Leonie Castelino, American Fiber Artist from Mahwah, New Jersey, who is showing her Contemporary Pojagi: ‘Homage to Klee’ in the European Patchwork Meeting Show in Alsace, France. Her work will be published in the Catalog that includes the International Artists for the ‘Pojagi & Beyond 2010’.

‘Homage to Klee’, 24” wide by 60” long, is pieced in one of the traditional pojagi seams – marubekki – which is a fell seam or a double seam. The material used is silk organza from Korea and India. Organza from each country is unique in its weight, weave and ‘hand’ or feel. All the colored squares and rectangles in are Korean silk organza.

Gorgeous, gorgeous. Thanks to Leonie for sharing the with me and my readers!

Confetti Naturescapes finally arrived!

I know I promised the books would ship at the end of August. Blame Customs! The books are a week and a half late, but they’re here at last.

Of course, this means that now my real work comes...THE SHIPPING! I have once again assumed my role as the master of all things shipping and packaging. I’ve had hundreds of pre-orders from around the world. I sent them all out today.

The UPS man was happy to see it all and even thanked me for using his company. That guy is a model employee. My greeting was perhaps not so warm at the post office when my son and I dropped  off over 100 parcels. Okay, it was late in the day. Okay, there were only two people working the station. Fortunately for one and all, I already had stamped the packages and could just drop and run.

What a relief! I’m worn out but so thrilled with the book. Of course, there’s more of the same tomorrow. Look for your book soon, and if you haven’t already ordered, what are you waiting for? Get over to Dragon Threads and get your copy now!

Get me my copy of Confetti Naturescapes!!!!

The Whisper Challenge Quilt Guild Project

Our guild worked on a fun project last year called “The Whisper Challenge.” It is like that game of telephone in which the last person's message is quite different from the first/original.

In our challenge we had groups of 4. We started with a photo taken by a guild member. Quilter #1 crafted that photo into a small quilt, then passed her quilt along to Quilter #2 without the original photo. When person #2 finished her quilt, she passed it to Quilter #3 without the previous quilt or photo, and so on down the line.
When we were done we had an exhibit of the original photo and the four quilts in progression.

What a difference from the first to the last one! The first ones were obviously more literal interpretations. Then it got a lot looser.
Mine is the day and night skyline of Boston (I’m from Boston). I thought that the quilt I was given looked like a skyline with each half different colors.  The results were surprising, neat, and interesting. Best of all, we all had a great time!  Try it in your group. It doesn’t have to be with quilts, really. This kind of project would work with painting, collage, or mixed media. It really gets your creative juices flowing.
