Quilting Season opens in Ohio!

I started this blog last year in June. Ohio is full of quilt shows once summer starts.  At the end of the month starts Quilt National in Athens and then National Quilting Association show for a weekend and Quilt Surface Design Symposium for two weeks and a show at the Riffe Center downtown called Happiness: Quilted Expressions and a show in Coshocton called Pushing the Surface:Contemporary Art Quilts that has a Noriko Endo piece and today the first one for me.

Our local Mc Connell Arts Center of Worthington has a show on now thru July 4 called BASTED VISION.  It’s the work of a small guild of art quilters aptly named “Off Our Blocks”.  I know several of these women and they are a talented group.

I particularly like the work of Sharon Vitt. This hand dyed fabric is so vibrant that it looks like silk.

These small quilts below by Elizabeth Palmer-Spilker represent the twelve months.

Below is a 3-dimensional quilt by Linda Goldfarb who once taught at my boys’ elementary school. I love the effect she gets with these embroidered elements.

This quilt by Ann Thomas has 3-D leaves and the pants are actual folded fabric for a whimsical touch.

There were many other wonderful art pieces…if you are in the neighborhood, go visit the Arts Center.

This is great start to Quilting Season in Ohio!
